community involvement

Russell-Cooke has a long history of supporting charities, organisations and individuals. Some of our current projects are detailed below. Click a heading to find out more.

charities

We support a number of local and national charities through sponsorships and staff fundraising events. In addition we donate £5 to one of our selected charities for each service questionnaire completed and returned by clients.
Each year the charities are selected by our staff and the nominated charities for 2013 are; CRUSE Bereavement in Richmond and Shepherds Bush Families Project.

For many years we have supported the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney. The Hospital in Putney provides specialist assessment and clinical rehabilitation services which transform the independence, confidence, dignity, and quality of life for patients with brain injury and neurological diseases. The hospital is not funded by the NHS, and relies heavily on voluntary donations to continue its unique work.

education

Russell-Cooke has been a supporter of the Friends of Richmond Park since 2007. This year we are sponsors of Posters in the Park, a competition for aspiring artists and designers of all ages, inspired by the beauty of Richmond Park and the special events of 2012.

The Kingston U3A (University of the Third Age) is a voluntary, self help organisation which caters for retired or semi-retired people, bringing them together for the pleasure of learning and sharing knowledge. The organisation provides a forum for activities such as languages, history, art and classical music, in addition to day trips and holidays abroad.

We support The Schools Law & Citizenship Web, a UK initiative which aims to bring teachers and lawyers together to introduce pupils to the legal system. The scheme includes the use of weekly news stories which help pupils to understand rights and responsibilities brought about by the law and how it impacts upon daily life. The firm is supporting a number of primary and secondary schools in the Putney and Kingston regions to utilise the scheme. Our support means that schools in these areas can access the project materials and improve pupils all round education.

sport

We are sponsors of Esher Rugby Club whose 1st team have played in the Championship until being relegated this season to the National League One. Russell-Cooke's support will help the club regain their position and improve facilities for all of its teams. The BBC's John Inverdale is an active patron of the club:

Russell-Cooke's support, both in terms of financial assistance but also as regards spectator involvement, has been a key element in Esher gaining promotion back to the 2nd tier of the game.  Building a relationship with local businesses is always an essential component in sports clubs achieving their goals, and the link between Esher and Russell-Cooke is long established and will hopefully continue for many years to come.

We've supported Rebecca Romero since she was a junior. After competing in rowing at the highest level – she won a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics and was a World Champion in 2005 – she has made a spectacularly successful switch to competitive cycling. Competing in the British Time Trial Championships a mere five months after starting cycle training, she won and promptly became British champion! She won a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics (2008) making her only the second women in history to win medals in different sports at the summer olympics.

I'd never had thought that as an 18 year old rower trying to raise the funds to compete at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 that 10 years later my greatest sporting success would be becoming Olympic champion on a bike? I'd like to thank everyone at Russell-Cooke for their support which began when contributing to my Commonwealth Games fundraising efforts and continued over the following 10 years. Financial support from local companies really does help build future Olympic champions - Russell-Cooke's certainly did!.

Russell-Cooke is also sponsor of the Roehampton Gold Cup, a pro-am tournament for female golfers which has been held at the Roehampton Club for over 75 years. Our recent support has meant that the club can now attract some of the top professional lady golfers, which further enhances the tournament's reputation.

the arts

We support a number of arts organisations in and around the London area.

We are a corporate sponsor of Southbank Centre, the largest single run arts centre in the world. Occupying a 21-acre site in the midst of London's thriving South Bank, the centre offers a wide-ranging artistic programme including classical & world music, rock & pop, jazz, dance, literature and the visual arts. Every year more than 1,000 musicians and artists perform and over 22 million people visit the site, making it one of the most popular cultural destinations in the country. Our support will help Southbank Centre continue to grow and thrive over the coming year.

The firm is proud sponsor of the Rose Theatre Kingston. We have been involved with the theatre since its inception and have supported it throughout its development. We also sponsor Friends First Night, an opportunity for the theatre friends to get together on the first night of each production.

The Rose is pleased to have the support and dedication of Russell-Cooke and its team of solicitors who have played an important role in helping us realise this exceptional new theatre for the local community and beyond.
