No reinstatement of erased architect: Russell-Cooke in new reported case
In John Dowland v Architects Registration Board [2013] EWHC 893 (Admin), the Court dismissed a former architect’s appeal against a refusal to re-enter him on the Register of Architects. He had previously been erased from the Register and was subject to a Bankruptcy Restriction Order.

Supreme Court decision in Radmacher v Granatino: Pre-nuptial agreement enforced by English courts
The Supreme Court, the highest court in England and Wales, has handed down its landmark ruling in the case of Radmacher v Granatino. The judgment, which is binding upon all other courts in this country, has given new status to pre-nuptial agreements, potentially changing the way in which the assets of a couple will be divided upon separation where they have previously entered into a pre-nuptial agreement.

New publications highlight Russell-Cooke's breadth and strength in the sector
The latest edition of The Legal 500 was published recently and Russell-Cooke were once again recognised as leaders in a number of areas. It coincides with the publication of The Lawyer's UK 200 Annual Report which ranks and reviews firms based on turnover and headcount statistics. The report has increased Russell-Cooke's ranking on 2009 and places it within the top 90 firms in the UK. The findings of the two publications are evidence of the firm's continued growth and the increased depth of its specialist practice areas.

“Self-help” on divorce is declared illegal by the Court of Appeal
In the recent case of Tchenguiz v Imerman, (August 2010), the Court of Appeal decided that it is illegal for spouses going through a divorce to engage in "self help" in order to learn more about their estranged spouse's financial affairs and that to do so could result in a criminal offence being committed.

Property client's development subject of BBC documentary
In 2006, Paul Reed of Russell-Cooke's Commercial Property Group, represented a landlord client in respect of the negotiation and completion of an agreement to build and grant a lease for a new state of the art veterinary practice in Surrey.
The practice is now the subject of the BBC One documentary series 'The Bionic Vet' which looks at the revolutionary new surgical techniques being pioneered there.

Russell-Cooke carry out the first prosecution for the Solicitors Regulation Authority under the Fraud Act 2006
The SRA instructed Russell-Cooke to prosecute Ghazala Sarwar for holding herself out to be a Solicitor when she was not qualified and also for forging Law Society documents (to ensure that she gained employment as a Solicitor with a company in the North West of England).
The prosecution was the first one to be brought by the SRA prosecuting an individual to protect the public and the profession under the Fraud Act 2006.

Janice Gardner, of Russell-Cooke's Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury department, has this week settled a high profile clinical negligence case against Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of actress Lesley Ash. The case has received a lot of media attention because of the significant amount of damages (£5m) awarded to Ms Ash, which was the highest ever paid out by the Trust for a hospital-acquired infection case.
