Samantha Palmer

Samantha Palmer is an Associate solicitor in the Charity and Social Business Team advising charities, social enterprises and not-for-profit public bodies on all aspects of property law. Her particular areas of expertise include the following:

Housing and Residential

Samantha advises a number of charities working on behalf of the blind and visually impaired on purchases of residential accommodation to house their service users. Samantha specialises in the commercial aspects of such purchases and also drafts appropriate residential tenancy agreements.

Samantha is assisting a national charity for the elderly with their donated housing scheme to assist the elderly to remain in their homes for longer and to receive support services from the charity.

Property Investments

Samantha assists on the sale and purchase of property where charities are managing their property investment portfolio.  She liaises closely with other professional advisors to ensure that Trustees comply with their obligations to invest the charity's funds wisely.

Leases of Premises

Samantha advises charities wishing to rent premises from which to trade or to carry out their office functions or to provide counselling or community services.  In particular, she assists charities to avoid the hidden costs often found in leases granted by commercial landlords or borough/county councils.

Mergers and Incorporations

Samantha assists with the smooth transfer of properties and related mortgages if a charity is moving from unincorporated to incorporated status or if a charity is merging or taking over another charity and its assets.

Samantha completed her degree at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, before training and qualifying at Ashurst Morris Crisp in 2003. Samantha worked in the policy team for Liberty, the human rights organisation, before joining Russell-Cooke in 2006.

Samantha is a member of the Association of Women Solicitors and Lawyers for Liberty.
