Dawn is a Partner in and Head of the French Law and Property Team and is recommended in Legal 500 (2012). She is also recognised in Chambers Global 2013 for her French expertise in private client work and corporate and M&A work.
Dawn is a dual-qualified solicitor in England and Wales (admitted in 1985) and Avocat au Barreau de Bordeaux (French practising avocat), admitted in 1996. She was a sole practitioner in Bordeaux for ten years before joining Russell-Cooke in 2000.
Dawn has a wealth of practical experience in Anglo/French matters and is reputed for her attention to detail combined with a sound knowledge of French law. She has become a highly respected figure in the domain of French and cross-border private client work for English clients. Known for handling complex, high quality private client work, she often assists other professionals in resolving issues involving French property law and successions.
Regularly consulted on all matters relating to French property including acquiring and owning property in France, including planning restrictions, she also advises on French wills, probate and estate and tax planning for UK individuals owning property in France or relocating there on a permanent basis.
She works closely with Russell-Cooke's Private Client Team on a variety of cross-border matters relating to tax, wills and successions with a French connection.
Dawn has a key role working with Russell-Cooke's specialist Trust and Estate Disputes Team in advising on disputes on death involving French properties and also minors inheriting French property. The Team recently advised Odile Marteyn, the long term partner of well known entrepreneur Bernard Matthews, in relation to a complex dispute concerning Mr Matthews' estates in England and France. Ms Marteyn was advised in French.
She is regularly consulted as an Expert in French law for UK legal proceedings in matters involving French property law and French successions and was involved in the case of Mr Stephen Martin v Secretary of State for Work and Pensions  EWCA Civ 1289 - Case No: C3/2009/0428. She also assists at mediation hearings involving claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 involving French property.
Dawn studied law at the University of Durham and is a member of the French Chamber of Commerce (UK), the Franco-British Lawyers Association, STEP UK and STEP France (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.)
