Introduction

The Charity Team operates as a dedicated specialist unit within Russell-Cooke and our charity solicitors are led by James Sinclair Taylor.

Acting for over 600 voluntary sector organisations across the UK, we advise over the whole field of charity law. Our work touches on most aspects of life in the voluntary sector, from day-to-day problems to strategic and constitutional issues, including

registration, constitutions and governance
property acquisition, sale and management
employment
fundraising and trading, including commercial ventures
contract negotiation
litigation
copyright, trade mark registration and the use of the Internet
tax including VAT

Although we act for many large national organisations - including Barnados and Unicef - we also act for many small and newly formed charities, offering practical and cost-effective solutions to everyday problems.

Background

Before joining forces with Russell-Cooke in June 2003 we operated as Sinclair Taylor & Martin, a specialist charity law firm with a strong reputation in its field. We rank:

Within Russell-Cooke our charity solicitors work as a team, drawing on the resources and skills of the wider firm when necessary. We are personally as well as professionally committed to the voluntary sector, running regular seminars and conferences and acting as volunteers and trustees.

People

We are based in the firm's Putney offices, a short journey from Central London, but are happy to see clients at the firm's Central London office at 8 Bedford Row.

Although individually we specialise in different aspects of charity law we each have a broad overview of the voluntary sector, drawing on our shared knowledge and experience.
