UK couple granted parentage rights to their adult surrogate child born in the US - The Times

A landmark ruling on a case in which associate Jade Quirke represented the claimants has granted a UK couple parenting rights over an adult child who was born by a surrogate mother in California more than 20 years ago.

The court made the first parental order which relates to a person over the age of 18, who was born as the result of a surrogacy arrangement.

This ruling highlights the positive impact that this ruling is likely to have, both clarifying the courts' position on whether or not parental orders may be made in relation to adults, and providing encouragement to other families with unresolved legal status following surrogacy agreements abroad.
