Russell-Cooke partner, Paul Greatholder has been appointed Chair of the Property Litigation Association. Paul took up this appointment on 3 November 2011, and will run for a period of 1 year.
The Property Litigation Association (PLA) is made up of over 1000 solicitors specialising in all areas of property disputes, providing training and addressing areas of property law which need review and reform. The President of the PLA is Lord Neuberger, Master of the Rolls.
The appointment comes at an important time for property law, in particular with property rights. Whether it is the right to evict squatters, or the right not to be evicted because of mortgage arrears, property issues have never had a higher profile in the media. Pressure on the Court system from limited funds means that access to justice is becoming more difficult, and Paul is therefore keen to ensure that an appropriate balance is struck between sometimes competing interests, and that dispute resolution is explored through all avenues, including mediation, wherever possible.
