Russell-Cooke recently assisted Maastricht University, Netherlands, with its investigation into legal form and shareholding requirements affecting the legal profession in the UK.

The university (together with its consortium partner Panteia) won a tender from the European Commission to provide a research report on 'Legal Form and Shareholding Requirements in the EU Services Sector'.  Their research involves compiling an inventory of existing requirements across the EEA in various professional sectors, and the potential justifications for those restrictions.

The report was commissioned as part of the European Commission's ongoing drive to promote the cross border provision of services. Russell-Cooke was asked to assist with the analysis of the UK legal services market given its expertise in this area.

Russell-Cooke's advice was provided by Michael Stacey, associate in the litigation team, together with David Webster, partner in the corporate & commercial team
