The Cambridge Advanced Learner's Directory defines diversity as "the fact of many different types of things or people being included in something; a range of different things or people." Many people will be aware of what this means and will understand that "different types of people" means a mix of individuals from different ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds and form of communities.

Francine Blanc appears in the Birmingham Law Society Bulletin saying "increasingly organisations are focusing on improving diversity in their businesses recognising that having people from different backgrounds with different perspectives generates a range of ideas, and is an asset which can add value to a business."
