In these increasingly difficult times for charities, people may be more reluctant to put themselves forward as trustees without full assessment of the risks that may be involved. The session will assist potential and current trustees understand their legal and governance duties, and will explore:

  • key issues to consider when becoming a trustee
  • getting on top of the job - what to ask for in induction
  • legal and governance duties of a trustee
  • personal liability and risks for trustees
  • charity law and Charity Commission regulation and guidance
  • conflicts of interests management and trustee payments
  • concerns, whistleblowing and disputes
