The latest edition of The Legal 500 was published recently and Russell-Cooke were once again recognised as leaders in a number of areas. It coincides with the publication of The Lawyer's UK 200 Annual Report which ranks and reviews firms based on turnover and headcount statistics. The report has increased Russell-Cooke's ranking on 2009 and places it within the top 90 firms in the UK. The findings of the two publications are evidence of the firm's continued growth and the increased depth of its specialist practice areas.
The Legal 500
The firm's Criminal Litigation Team are ranked amongst the capital's leaders for criminal defence work and this year the directory also recognised the Team's expertise in fraud and white collar crime. Head of department Jae Carwardine was singled out as one leading solicitors in the field with her specialist extradition work particularly noted.
The Commercial Property Group saw an improvement on their previous rankings and were newly recognised for their expertise in the retail property sector. The Group were noted for providing a "first-class, professional service" with partner Helen Edwards receiving accreditation for her "excellent professional attitude". The firm's Property Litigation expertise was once again recognised. Head of department, Jason Hunter, was recommended and the Team's 'strong line of referral instructions from City firms' was noted as evidence of how well regarded they are in the sector.
Peter Cadman, head of the Regulation department, was described as "tactical and strategic" as the firm's growing prominence in the regulatory field was reflected in a good ranking under professional discipline.
The Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury department continue to win plaudits from the directory which notes that 'Clients applaud a "seamless service" from "approachable" and "compassionate" individuals'. Dominic Fairclough and Janice Gardner were recommended for Clinical Negligence. On the Personal Injury side, Russell-Cooke's 'commitment to "difficult cases that other organisations might not take on" was noted. In both areas, the team is ranked as one of the top ten practices in London.
Russell-Cooke's strong Charity Team is ranked amongst the capital's leaders in the charity and not-for-profit sector. James Sinclair Taylor, who is noted as "a recognised expert", is once again singled out as a leader in field and property expert Mary Cheves is noted as being 'highly regarded for her professional expertise, and appreciated as a "forceful negotiator".
The firm has again been recommended for personal tax, trusts and probate work with head of department, Richard Frimston being described as 'a well known and highly regarded practitioner with particular expertise in cross-border succession issues'. The Team's cross-border expertise is also recognised as part of the firm's recommendation for contentious trusts and probate work. Alison Regan is noted as a 'key partner'.
The Family Team continue to be ranked amongst the London's leaders. Fiona Read is noted as a solicitor who "organises her work extremely well and gains the confidence of her clients". The firm's Employment department is also once again recognised.
