Sports Direct and Prêt a Manger were amongst the many retailers who opened stores at Westfield Stratford City, London at its recent grand opening.
Both retailers are long standing clients of Russell-Cooke and agreed deals to take on units with tight deadlines (if they were to open on time). The retail team speedily turned around the legal side of both deals in a matter of weeks, so that the shops could open as part of the grand opening at the centre, which was attended by Boris Johnson along with a performance from Nicole Scherzinger.
Our close knowledge of our clients' businesses, the retail legal market and experience of acting for tenants in Westfield centres and understanding of the unique parts of their documents all helped us get the deal completed so that the fit-out works could start within a few weeks of terms being agreed.
Westfield Stratford City is key to the Olympic development. It is said to be one of the largest regeneration projects carried out in the UK and the biggest European urban shopping centre. Being on the doorstep to the Olympic park it is estimated 75% of spectators will walk through the centre on their way to the Olympics*.
Julyan O'Connor, Head of Acquisitions at Prêt a Manger, said "Sarah Taylor provided a thorough, professional and focused first class service within a very tight time frame to ensure that the shop opened with the rest of the scheme on 13 September".
