Andrew Godfrey, partner in the private client group, has been appointed new Chair of the STEP Cross-Border Estates Global SIG (Special Interest Group) Steering Committee.

STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is a worldwide professional organisation consisting of over 20,000 members across 95 countries including lawyers, accountants and other trust and estate specialists.

The Cross-Border Estates Global SIG Steering Committee addresses the domain of estate planning and the administration of estates/successions across international borders, with a focus on reconciling divergent inheritance rules between civil code jurisdictions, common law jurisdictions and other codes of law.

Serving as Chair, Andrew will be working with STEP and the Committee to promote the exchange of knowledge, ideas and practice in the cross-border estates field.

Commenting on his appointment on 1 June 2018, Andrew said "It's an honour to be elected by my fellow Committee members as Chair. I look forward to working with the Committee and with members of the group. It is interesting times to be involved in this exciting and changing area."

Andrew advises families, individuals, charities and corporate entities on all aspects of private client law, with a particular focus on cross-border matters and related succession and tax advice for individuals with international connections.
