We were instructed by the Law Society to prosecute the defendant for holding herself out to be a solicitor when she was not qualified and also for forging Law Society documents (to ensure that she gained employment as a solicitor with a company in the North West of England).

The prosecution was the first one to be brought by the SRA prosecuting an individual to protect the public and the profession under the Fraud Act 2006.The matter was heard at Manchester Crown Court and the defendant admitted fraud by false representations by handing over to her employers forged documents and was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for 24 months and was also tagged electronically for a period of four months.
