Acting in the administration of the estate of a British national domiciled in England & Wales who died without leaving a will owning assets in Guernsey and Ireland and a property in Florida. We advised on the laws of intestacy of England & Wales and the application of those rules to the jurisdictions in which the deceased's assets were located. Lawyers in Guernsey, Ireland and Florida were instructed to assist in the administration of the estate which enabled grants of administration to be obtained in each of those jurisdictions, with Russell-Cooke overseeing the process. A claim to apply the provisions of the double taxation treaty between the UK and USA relating to inheritance taxes was made and the beneficiaries of the estate advised on their Irish inheritance tax position.
