Tom is an associate in the commercial litigation and public regulation team. He advises businesses, individuals, regulators and not-for-profit organisations on intellectual property law as well as contractual, regulatory, administrative and public law disputes.

Tom specialises in the regulation and prosecution of fraudulent solicitors, intellectual property cases involving allegations of counterfeit or trade mark infringement and cyber-security response strategies, in addition to more general company disputes. His substantial experience includes acting for clients in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Employment Tribunal, Technology and Construction Court and the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court. Many of the cases Tom has acted in have been high profile and received significant attention in the legal press.

Intellectual Property and IT

  • Coordinator of multidisciplinary (Legal, IT and PR) response strategies for victims of cyber-attacks and/or data breaches

  • Advised a retailer in relation to allegations of trading counterfeit goods and defending a claim for loss of profits in the High Court
  • Advised a cryptocurrency trader in relation to a claim against online, e-wallet cryptocurrency platforms and unfreezing the funds held within

Regulatory

  • Represented regulatory bodies in pursuing fraudulent professional service providers alleged to have dissipated millions of client money
  • Advised professional regulatory bodies in relation to professional disciplinary cases
  • Advised food manufacturers in relation to labelling issues raised by the Food Standards Agency

Alternative dispute resolution

  • Represented business partners in a private compensation scheme relating to the criminally convicted HBOS Impaired Assets Office
  • Represented claimants in mediations relating to debt recovery and business ownership disputes
