Rita Bhargava, partner in the private client team, has been appointed new Chair of STEP England and Wales Committee.

STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) is a worldwide professional organisation consisting of over 20,000 members across 95 countries including lawyers, accountants and other trust and estate specialists.

Serving as Deputy Chair since 2015 and on the committee since 2011, Rita’s new role will involve meeting with technical and policy Committees across the UK to discuss and comment on proposed changes in law, and considering education and business development initiatives for all STEP members across England and Wales.

Commenting on her appointment on 1 January 2017, Rita said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed Chair of STEP England and Wales. STEP is so important in setting professional standards for practitioners. Many of my colleagues at Russell-Cooke are members of STEP and together we help families and individuals plan for their futures.”

Patricia Wass TEP, worldwide Chair of STEP, said: “We are extremely lucky to have Rita as our England & Wales Chair. She is full of ideas and has a real understanding of the issues members in the region are facing. We very much look forward to the energy and dynamism she will bring to this role.”

Rita advises individuals and families on a wide range of private client issues, including administering estates, wills, Court of Protection and capacity issues. Described by legal directory The Legal 500 as “extremely experienced and empathetic” and as a "significant figure in the team", Rita often gives talks to NHS groups, charities and private organisations regarding issues surrounding capacity.

STEP aims to promote best practice, professional integrity and education to all its members who help families plan for their futures - from drafting a will or advising family businesses, to helping international families and protecting vulnerable family members.
