Russell-Cooke is very pleased to announce that James Sandiford, senior associate in the children and education team, has been appointed as a Deputy District Judge by the Lord Chief Justice.

In addition to his role at Russell-Cooke, James will sit on the South Eastern Circuit hearing family and civil cases on a part-time basis.

James trained at Russell-Cooke and qualified into the children Law team in 2009. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Law Society Children panel representing children in court proceedings. He is also a Resolution accredited specialist in private law, children disputes and adoption.

James manages a varied caseload of public law children work, private law work, and adoption, providing focused and practical advice to achieve the best outcomes for children and families. He is recognised as an associate to watch in Chambers and Partners 2023 as “a very good solicitor who is forensic, thorough and hard-working”.

James' appointment sees him join partner Fiona Read, who has served in the role since 2005 as a Deputy District Judge and arbitrator.

We wholeheartedly congratulate James on his appointment.
