Anu Hawoldar is a bilingual senior associate – Notaire in the French private client legal team.

Anu qualified as a Notaire in Mauritius in 1997 and trained for a couple of years before opening her own Chambers in 2000. She then went on to become a Partner of Hawoldar Chambers in 2004 forming various strategic partnerships with senior lawyers and finance professionals to advise clients on a variety of corporate, civil, contractual and conveyancing matters.

Anu joined Russell Cooke in 2022.

Anu has extensive experience within the real estate industry, having also worked as a consultant on transactional real estate and management of portfolios within the UK and internationally, ensuring a seamless oversight and successful end-to-end completion of transactions. She has advised on such matters as French property and inheritance law, double taxation treaties, international tax planning, estate planning, reallocation and moving of funds onshore or offshore.

Anu has particular expertise in managing and overseeing international sale/acquisition of properties whilst ensuring contractual and legal safeguards are met. She has acted for both individuals and corporate clients and recognises the importance of being able to tailor her advice and approach, depending on the instruction and type of matter.

  • Advised and assisted investment firms and private high net worth real estate investors in their cross-border transactions providing due diligence for the acquisition, sales, lettings and management of real estate portfolios
  • Liaised with foreign investors and lawyers / Notaries to ensure all the ancillary services are met from the point of identifying interest(s) in property to the finalising of the sale/purchase agreement
  • Extensive experience in legal drafting of deeds including negotiation between parties, division in kind between heirs, all forms of conveyancing, lease agreements, wills and estate planning, creation of trusts and special purpose vehicles and legal instruments.
  • Advised on legal and commercial risks and acted as legal consultant to various private and government organisations
  • Conversant in securing the legal documentation for bank guarantees and vetting of bank’s legal agreements in consultation with senior colleagues
  • Advised and drafted government and private ownership leases and dealership agreements between parties
  • Worked closely with government owned organisations dealing in bulk residential conveyancing
  • Assisted private and government owned insurance companies and drafted loan agreements and secured mortgages in favour of the insurance company on properties belonging to their clients
  • Advised on corporate joint venture agreements
  • Read law at University of Mauritius and gained a distinction in Professional Notary Exams – Council of Legal Education – Supreme Court of Mauritius 1997
