Domestic abuse is any incident or pattern of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between people who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality. Domestic abuse can encompass:

  • physical violence
  • coercive control (a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence)
  • psychological and/or emotional abuse
  • sexual abuse
  • financial or economic abuse
  • harassment and stalking
  • online or digital abuse
  • ‘honour’ based abuse
