Law firm Russell-Cooke recently assisted with its establishment as a charity In Their Hands, a teen-centred movement to normalise adolescent sexual health, reduce pregnancy and end unsafe abortion among Kenyan adolescents.
In Their Hands, powered by its delivery partner Triggerise, uses a digital platform to connect girls to information and services via their mobile phones or community mobilisers. It has served over 375,000 girls with contraceptive services since it began operations in 2017, and is now looking to expand beyond Kenya.
The Russell-Cooke team, associate Gareth Roy and partner Chris Rowse, working alongside local counsel in Kenya, set up the organisation as a company in England and Wales and successfully registered it with the Charity Commission. The team continues to provide ongoing advice to In Their Hands on operational matters.
Gareth Roy commented: “It is great to be able to work with a charity making such a significant impact and using modern, innovative methods to do so. ITH is an ambitious, forward-looking charity and we’re really pleased to be supporting it as the charity continues to expand its reach and impact.”
Russell-Cooke has a large team of lawyers advising charities in the UK, ranging from household names such as the British Heart Foundation and UNICEF UK, to start-ups and local voluntary organisations.
