Stephen Clarke led a team of ten lawyers acting for the Tote on the acquisition of seventy-seven betting shops from William Hill for £35m. The shops had been formerly operated by Stanleys.
On acquiring Stanleys' business, William Hill was obliged to dispose of part of the Stanley portfolio to comply with requirements laid down by the Office of Fair Trading. The Tote acquired some of these sites. The deal took place in two tranches, both of which involved tight timescales.
