Acting for the SRA in complex and high-profile disciplinary proceedings arising from the Al-Sweady Inquiry and claims of unlawful killing and torture by British troops in Iraq. The substantive hearing took place over seven weeks in April – June 2017.

The Tribunal found by a majority that none of the 20 allegations of professional misconduct (including dishonesty) were proved, with one of the solicitor members dissenting in respect of 10 allegations.

The respondents' unsuccessful application that the SRA pay 60% of their costs (which exceeded £7 million) was heard in November 2017. The SRA is appealing the substantive decision to the Administrative Court.
