Ministers moved last week to reform the law governing leasehold. The Government's plan to grant easier lease extensions of 990 years with zero ground rent will change the way leaseholds work for homebuyers and landlords.
The measures have been touted as the biggest reforms to English property law for 40 years and as a result there is already unease.
While landlords may be anxious to hear these announced reforms, Russell-Cooke partner Shabnam Ali-Khan comments in The Times that the plans will make buying and selling easier and that the removal of the 'marriage value' should make the calculation rates fairer, cheaper and more transparent.
