Russell-Cooke senior associate Patrick Delas recently spoke on the subject of the impact of Brexit on the United Kingdom at “Rencontres Internationales Althémis.” This is the annual conference of Althémis, one of the top notarial firms in France and a member of Lexunion, the international network of which Russell-Cooke is the sole English law member firm. The conference is a prestigious event and a key date in the private client cross-border calendar. This year due to the global pandemic it was held remotely for the first time.

The firm’s specialist lawyers speak regularly at technical legal conferences. Although the content is often only comprehensible to other specialists this technical expertise is the secure base from which the firm delivers practical and client-focused advice. One positive effect of the pandemic is that much larger audiences can attend conferences virtually from far and wide.

Senior partner John Gould said: “A friendly competition has developed within the firm to draw the biggest audiences to lectures. Over the months the record has edged upwards and is now held by Patrick Delas within our French Team who drew an audience of more than 700 professionals from across Europe for his lecture “Royaume-Uni: les consequences fiscales et patrimoniales du Brexit”.

Patrick and Russell-Cooke have a Europe-leading expertise in the cross-border legal issues that arise for individuals and businesses. These issues will be even more impenetrable for the lay person during the coming years as numerous aspects of the UK’s relationship with our EU neighbours develop.”

Patrick is a Solicitor (England & Wales) and Avocat au Barreau de Paris. His specialist work is Private International Law and includes advising on French and cross-border tax issues (Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Wealth Tax and trust reporting obligations).
