We are fast approaching the end of the transitional period and moving towards a whole new immigration system from 1 January 2021. One of the major changes to affect businesses is that they will be required to sponsor EEA nationals (who have not applied under the EU Settlement Scheme) from 1 January 2021 to work for them in the UK, in addition to the existing sponsorship of non-EEA nationals. With a recent positive shift in the Government’s attitude in encouraging skilled workers to enter the UK, businesses may benefit from applying for their sponsor licence now.

Associate Bhavneeta Limbachia considers the process of applying for a sponsor licence, the benefits in obtaining a licence, sponsor duties, the key changes due in 2021 and what businesses should be doing to prepare themselves for the new system.
