What are we looking for in a solicitor apprentice?

Russell Cooke Solicitor Apprenticeships 1

Your route to becoming a solicitor

Combining academic study, practical experience and professional development

We are looking for ambitious, curious and resilient individuals who are passionate about law and committed to building a long-term career with us.

We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A genuine interest in law and helping clients.

  • Initiative and problem-solving ability.

  • Great teamwork and organisation skills.

  • Commitment to learning and personal development.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any legal work experience as we understand that many apprentices won’t have had that opportunity at the outset of their careers. We want to know about your wider work experience – any paid work or volunteering is important. Also let us know about other things which demonstrate that you have the skills above, such as from clubs and activities at school, or interests and hobbies.

Eligibility requirements

  • You should be in Year 13 (or equivalent) or have recently completed your school or college studies and be able to meet our academic requirements.

  • To apply, candidates should typically have academic qualifications as follows:

    • A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including English and Maths.

    • Predicted or achieved A-Level grades of ABB.

  • Equivalent qualifications will be considered and mitigating circumstances will be reviewed on an individual basis.

  • Please note that the academic aspect of this programme is funded through the Apprenticeship Levy meaning that applicants must be eligible for Government apprenticeship funding. Eligibility includes meeting the required residency and right-to-work criteria in England.
