John Gould wins ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at British Legal Awards
Chair and partner John Gould has been awarded the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the 2024 British Legal Awards in recognition of his many achievements, contribution to legal practice and his role in Russell Cooke’s success.
The children team was also shortlisted for Private Client Team of the Year, which recognises the full spectrum of private client work including family and children matters, for its family building work on intra-country surrogacy agreements and international adoption.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by ALM before an audience of eight hundred guests, honours those who have left their mark on the legal sector through their leadership and vision. John is the only lawyer to receive the coveted accolade this year but past awardees have included many well-known names in the legal profession.
John spent nearly forty years leading the firm, during which time it grew to fifty times its original revenue to become a UK top 100 firm. He is widely regarded as a leading figure in the field of legal regulation and public law, is a contributor to legal knowledge and is staunchly committed to responsible practice and social inclusion.
It is a privilege to have received this award. In a profession that is home to many individuals with long and inspiring careers, I am extremely grateful to have been recognised in this way. I am happy to have played my part in Russell-Cooke’s growth over the past forty years, and it is a pleasure to see the firm and its people thrive.
John’s win is well-deserved, reflecting his energy and vision combined with a steadfast commitment to the values of public service, principles of independence and the rule of law. His vision and approach have been transformative both within the firm and the profession. Congratulations to John on this fantastic achievement.
The 2024 British Legal Awards took place on 27 November 2024 in London.
