Russell-Cooke has published its 2023-24 Responsible Business Report, which provides a comprehensive summary of the firm’s current performance and ongoing commitments across a range of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria.

The information contained in the report is divided into four categories – Environment, Justice, People, and Community – and sets out the firm’s action plan for managing and taking demonstrable steps forward on key issues in each area.

Highlights of the firm’s achievements since last year’s report  include:

  • developing a new sustainable procurement policy
  • increasing female partner numbers from 35% to 41% over the course of the 2022-2023 financial year
  • increasing the number of state school-educated trainees from 56% in 2024 cohort to 83% in 2025 cohort
  • recording 12922 hours of legal aid work carried out by 75 fee-earners from across the firm
  • setting up a pilot volunteering scheme for employees

Partner and Chair of the Responsible Business Committee Alison Regan commented:

Our commitment to being a responsible business is embedded in our approach to our work and we know how important it is to our people. But we have gone one step further and woven it explicitly into our three year strategic plan and the fabric of our governance structures. Every decision that goes to our board is assessed against our commitments – and particularly the centrality of climate change and social inclusion as critical issues for our business, people, industry and communities."

"Since publishing our first Report last year, we have set up a Responsible Business Committee. The committee meets regularly to debate and propose new initiatives and to check on progress against the commitments from our last report. This new level of reporting gives us the opportunity to take a step back and see clearly what we have achieved and, crucially, what we need to focus on."

"We still of course have much to do and in 2024 one of our key priorities will be further embedding our responsible business approach into everything we do as a business and as an employer. I look forward to a productive year ahead.”
