Consultant Samantha Little has spoken on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast with Naga Munchetty following the publication of the Southport Inquiry.

In light of the Chair’s comments about the responsibility of Axel Rudakubana’s parents as a factor in the case, Samantha was asked to join the programme to talk about parental responsibility and what this means. She was able to explain how it is understood in the family courts and discuss some of the complexities that arise in exercising parental responsibility.

Parental responsibility essentially means everything about bringing up your children: where they live, where they go to school, what they wear, and the bigger decisions such as medical treatment. It is all the decisions that go into looking after a child.
