Partner Shabnam Ali-Khan has written in the Estates Gazette about the ongoing uncertainty in leasehold reform following the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 (LAFRA 2024). Shabnam highlights how, despite promises to make property ownership fairer and more transparent, key provisions remain unclear or unimplemented, leaving developers, lenders, and leaseholders in a state of prolonged uncertainty.

The uncertainty of leasehold reform continues, and with it, the risk of destabilising a system that underpins more than five million homes across England and Wales… Professionals in the sector are in a difficult position. It requires a delicate balance of ensuring clients are clear on what has been implemented and what may be coming. Leaseholders, the group reform seeks to protect, are caught between promises of transformation and policy delay.
